Eight dancers from QL2 Dance’s Quantum Leap ensemble are currently in Thailand, participating in a contemporary dance exchange. Entitled Boundless Dance Exchange, the program has also seen four young Thai dancers from Bangkok Dance Academy travel to Canberra.
The eight young dancers from Canberra will be doing development workshops, classes and performances with a group of 13 dancers from Bangkok Dance Academy as part of the Boundless Dance Exchange. They will then continue on to London, and finally Glasgow for the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival – meeting and dancing with hundreds of dancers from around the world.
On Saturday the dancers performed Cinders, a short contemporary work created by ex-Quantum Leaper and independent dance-maker, James Batchelor.
Back in Australia, the four visiting Thai dancers join 40 Canberra and region dancers working at Gorman House Arts Centre under choreographer Danielle Micich, to develop and rehearse the final piece for QL2 Dance’s triple bill “Boundless”, to be presented at Canberra Playhouse 30 July – 2 August. The eight touring Australian dancers will return to join them for final rehearsals and the performances.
