Auditions for Queensland Ballet Company and Professional Year 2012 will be held from 1 - 5pm on Sunday 18 September, 2011, at the Company's studios in the Thomas Dixon Centre, corner Drake Street and Montague Road, West End, Brisbane. Candidates are required to complete and submit the registration form prior to the audition. This form is available to download from www.queenslandballet.com.au or on request from the Company by phoning (07) 3013 6666, or email mail@queenslandballet.com.au. Registrations close at 5pm on September 15, 2011.
Candidates should wear clothing that is suitable for class, and women should bring pointe shoes. Brief interviews may be conducted with some applicants after the class. Those who are auditioning should bring a copy of an up-to-date CV. An audition fee of $20 is payable on the day.
The Queensland Ballet Professional Year (PY) is an innovative program for gifted young dancers who are interested in pursuing a professional career in classical ballet. The course is unique in Australia in that it is run in the home of a professional dance company, providing the training and experience needed for dance students to make the transition to becoming a professional dancer.
With a focus on classical technique, the course is devised and supervised by Queensland Ballet’s artistic director, François Klaus, and is co-ordinated by the company’s artistic associate, Robyn White. The curriculum enables students to take class with the company. They also undertake pointe work, pas de deux classes, and develop their solo repertoire. Additional classes include choreography and improvisation, contemporary, ballroom, drama, physical theatre, and stagecraft, among others.
