Ballet Dortmund

An audition is being held in Sydney for the Dortmund Ballet & Youth Company in Germany. The audition is for a paid full-time contract for pre-professional dancers, males and females, from the ages 18+.

Alysson Rocha, First Ballet Master of Dortmund Ballet, will run the audition. He is in Sydney at the invitation of the Tanya Pearson Academy, which is holding a special masterclasses series with elite ballet professionals from July 9-14. The masterclasses lead up to an international ballet gala on July 16 and 17, featuring a glittering array of guest artists, including principal dancers and soloists from the Australian Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Berlin State Ballet, Bavarian State Ballet and Dortmund Ballet, to name just a few. (Look out for more details on this website soon!)

"This is a very rare opportunity for Australian dancers to have the chance to audition in Sydney for an international ballet company," says Gregor Thieler, Executive Director of the TPA. "The Youth Company (NRW Junior Ballett) is one of the best youth development platforms in Europe. Dancers receive a fully-paid two-year contract from August 1 to July 31. It is an ideal springboard for graduates to gain professional stage experience in a company setting. The dancers are allowed to audition for other companies while under contract. The repertoire of Dortmund Ballet is exceptional, with internationally renowned choreographers such as William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Edward Clug, Douglas Lee, Akram Khan, Alexander Ekman, Christopher Wheeldon, Raimondo Rebeck and Xin Peng Wang."

One of TPA's Pre-Professional Level students, Phoebe Kilminster, has already successfully auditioned for Dortmund Ballet, through on-line auditions facilitated by the Academy last year. She recently received a full contract with Dortmund Ballet, which will commence in August this year.
