Brooke Stamp and Jenni Large will be conducting Stamp and Large Lab, a dance workshop, from Monday 30 November to Friday 4 December, 9.30am-3.30pm at the Judith Wright Centre, Brisbane.
Jenni will begin each day with a Contemporary Technique class based on release principles - softening the body, directing energy and finding freedom within form. She will explore sophisticated co-ordination with efficiency and balancing mobility and strength to access whole physical potential. From here participants will expand their awareness to each other’s bodies, empathising with another body and ultimately deepening understanding of themselves. Participants will also use improvisation and intuition to explore the choreographic possibilities of colliding bodies and the significance of unity and connection in space.
Brooke will lead participants through afternoon sessions. She will build on Jenni’s morning explorations, developing choreographic and compositional possibilities through rich improvisational processes stemming from authentic movement practices, drawing, visualising and sounding the space. These sessions will illuminate the dancers’ core kinetic and energetic impulse to move, and support participants to consider, energy, texture, imagination and creative location through practicing seeing and being seen. Dancers will warm their bodies into action, explore moving with eyes-closed, visualization, vocalizing, phrasing and articulating both independently and as a group to develop new modes of awareness of space and others.
