Applications are now open for the Ausdance Peggy van Praagh Choreographic Fellowship, a $10,000 fellowship supporting the professional development of a mid-career independent choreographer.
The fellowship is designed for choreographers whose practice shows strong artistic potential and who would benefit from targeted career development support. Applicants are invited to define their own career stage, and to demonstrate how the fellowship would support their choreographic development, practice or future trajectory.
Named in honour of Dame Peggy van Praagh, the founding Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet and one of the founders of Ausdance, the fellowship continues her commitment to nurturing Australian choreographic voices across ballet and contemporary dance.
Fellowship activities must be completed within two years of the application date. While the fellowship does not need to lead to a performance outcome, recipients are required to produce a public outcome of some kind.
Applicants must be professional independent choreographers, rather than applying on behalf of a company or incorporated producing entity. They must also be Australian citizens or permanent residents, or be able to demonstrate longstanding professional involvement in the Australian dance sector. Applicants must be current financial Ausdance members.
Ausdance welcomes applications from independent choreographers working across contemporary and hybrid practices, culturally diverse practices, First Nations dance practice, regional and remote contexts, disability-led practice, and intergenerational or community-connected choreographic practice.
Expressions of interest should include up to 1000 words addressing the assessment criteria, a link to a sample of work of up to three minutes of choreography, and a CV of no more than two pages including two references.
Previous recipients of the Peggy van Praagh Choreographic Fellowship include Alisdair Macindoe, Kristina Chan, Lina Limosani, Kay Armstrong and Stephanie Lake.
Applications close at 5.00pm AEST on Friday 31 July 2026. Find out more
