Dance meets visual art in an exhibition entitled "Moving Image", by Australian Dance Theatre (ADT).  "Moving Image" is open until 24 August at Artspace Gallery, Adelaide Festival Centre.

"Moving Image" consists of audio-visual installations and focuses on two of Garry Stewart’s works for ADT, Proximity and Collision Course.  Both works have been developed in partnership with ADT’s dancers and national and international collaborators.

The first installation, Collision Course, presents a series of bodies colliding in mid-air, captured in extreme slow motion at 1500 frames per second. What results is a series of almost-still images, where every movement and muscle is brought into sharp focus by the slow motion camera. The project includes a cast of over 100 sportspeople and dancers trained in various physical disciplines – martial artists, rugby players, gymnasts, athletes, wrestlers, capoeira dancers, breakdancers, boxers, jive dancers, contemporary dancers to name a few. Collision Course was conceived, choreographed and co-directed by Garry Stewart and produced and co-directed by Carmelo Musca.

The second of Stewart’s installations, Proximity, will be exhibited alongside Collision Course and provide an opportunity for the general public to engage and interact with the installation. Proximity premiered at the Adelaide Festival in 2012, and this special interactive version has been developed by Paris-based video engineer Thomas Pachoud who created the stunning interactive computer animations for the live dance work.

"Moving Image" is open now, every Wednesday to Sunday from 11am-4pm until Saturday, 24th of August 2014. Entry is free.
