What is your best memory of your full-time dance studies?

Performing at the Queensland Ballet Academy Gala in 2024. I danced in Donizetti Variations by Paul Boyd and Release by Louise Deleur. In Donizetti Variations, Mr Boyd created choreography that brought out my strengths. Throughout rehearsals, he knew when to push me forward and when to pull back. Dancing alongside my sister and peers who feel like family was the perfect way to mark our graduating year. I had zero nerves and trusted my partner completely. Release was a different challenge: emotionally charged, physically demanding, and stripped back. I had a partner who met the intensity of the moment with honesty. Miss Louise was direct, insightful, and trusting. The audience’s applause was a moment of gratitude for the people beside me, the mentors behind me, and the chance to do what I love.

What advice would you give to someone considering pursuing full-time dance studies at the school you attended? What are the key things they should know or prepare for?

First, don’t train half-heartedly. If you commit fully, you’ll get the most out of what Queensland Ballet Academy offers. Second, learn to laugh things off when they go wrong and remember that one moment doesn’t define you. Third, respect your pas de deux partner, your environment, your teachers, your peers, and your body. Fourth, success is driven by resilience, grit, passion, motivation, humility, artistry, discipline, and the courage to be fearless in the studio and on-stage. Finally, a big part of your growth comes from the people around you. Christian Tàtchev, the Academy Director, is one of the most important male role models in my life. I trust his guidance and deeply value his integrity. His leadership helped shape who I am today.
