What is the main lesson you learnt?
At ED5INTERNATIONAL, we were taught a lot about work ethic and the importance of keeping an open mind when trying new things. In this industry, you need a tough skin and have to put in the work for yourself – no one is going to do it for you.
During full-time, I really saw the outcome of putting effort into my craft. I grew the most by putting myself in situations I normally wouldn’t have. For example, at ED5 we would sing in front of each other at times, which was really daunting at first as I had never done that before, but I could see progress every day.
Since graduating from full-time, I’ve done many singing gigs and completed an entire contract performing and singing every night. To this day, I continue to keep an open mind when it comes to learning new skills and trying things I’ve never done before, even if they seem difficult or intimidating. This is especially important on overseas contracts, where you are constantly meeting people from around the world who have very different experiences and perspectives to your own.
What advice would you give to someone considering pursuing full-time dance studies at the school you attended?
I would say do it! It’s such a well-rounded course at ED5INTERNATIONAL. You don’t just learn how to dance, you learn how to build a long-lasting career in this industry. You expand your toolbox with new skills, which then leads to even more opportunities.
The teachers are knowledgeable and genuinely want the best for you. It’s a lovely atmosphere filled with support and guidance, no matter how much experience you have coming in. My biggest advice would be to keep an open mind and not be afraid to try something new because you never know where it could lead you.
