Trained at: Ablaze Dance Academy

Presently: Mystic Ballet/ MB Creative

What is the main lesson you learnt?

The most valuable lessons I learned during my training was the importance of not comparing myself to others. When I first arrived, I felt intimidated being surrounded by so many talented dancers. I became overly critical of my own technique and strength, constantly measuring myself against those around me. This mindset initially made it difficult to appreciate my own progress, and I often felt frustrated when others seemed to master things more quickly than I could. Over time, I learned to shift my perspective and instead of letting comparisons discourage me, I began to use the achievements of others as inspiration and sources of motivation. This change in mindset helped me become more resilient, more focused on my own growth, and more supportive of my peers. Rather than giving up when I struggled, I learned to persist with determination, using every challenge as an opportunity to improve and grow.

How did the community within your program (teachers, peers) shape your experience and growth as a dancer and individual? Can you share a specific example?

The community within my program was vital in shaping both my growth as a dancer and as a person. From the beginning, I found myself surrounded by dedicated tutors and supportive peers who created an environment where I felt encouraged to take risks. This sense of support made it possible for me to explore new movements and ideas with confidence, knowing I had people who believed in me. My tutors played a particularly important role in this process. They provided me with guidance on everything from technique to artistry. They emphasized the importance of discipline, but also the necessity of personal expression in dance. They were always pushing me to maintain the highest standards while also encouraging me to bring my own voice and emotion into the movement. Even when they were tough or challenging in their feedback, it never felt discouraging, it was always aimed at helping me grow.
