Dance @ the Brisbane Festival

Comments Comments

The Brisbane Festival is almost upon us (September 2 - 24), with a dance program that is boosted strongly by exciting Qld artists.

Following its highly acclaimed premier at Brisbane Powerhouse in 2021, Australasian Dance Collective is bringing back Aftermath, an electric collaboration between artistic director of ADC, Amy Hollingsworth, and choreographer/dancer Jack Lister, to a searing score performed live by the award-winning producer, vocalist and songwriter Danny Harley of The Kite String Tangle.

Aftermath will come to Brisbane following a season at the Cairns Festival on September 1 & 2. After Brisbane it will move to the New Annual festival in Newcastle on 1 & 2 October.

Brisbane's Phluxus2 Dance Collective is presenting Angel-Monster, straight from a season at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Choreographed by Nerida Matthaei, it is "a portrait, a requiem and a call to arms for sisters, mothers, angels and monsters alike".

Townsville's Dancenorth will present Wayfinder (previewed here here.)

Proud Wiradjuri man Joel Bray is travelling up from NSW to take Brisbane audiences "on a flirty, filthy and passionate journey through the true history of sensuality, down under", according to the synopsis of his show. Called Considerable Sexual Licence, this provocative dance-theatre performance blends cabaret, comedy and choreography.

Also on the program is Stephanie Lake's Manifesto (see here for more info), Restless Dance Theatre's Guttered (see here), Kiosk, The Farm, dance film and much more.
