Featuring The Australian Ballet’s Jake Mangakahia, Icarus is a new, short contemporary dance film exploring the ancient parable of the same name, about the boy who flew too close to the sun.

Due for online release May 30, Icarus is the debut of Lumyth, a new multimedia arts collective comprised of Melbourne and London based artists, who use film, dance, design and music to explore both untold and familiar fables.

Directed by Lumyth co-founder Candice MacAllister (Victorian Opera and Rambert Dance Company), with cinematography by Niv Novak (director of missed nuance), Icarus won Second Place for Editing and Third Place for Cinematography at the 2020 Utah Dance Film Festival, and was an official selection at the 2020 Phoenix Dance Film Festival in the USA.

You can watch the premiere of Icarus live on Facebook on May 30 – head to Lumyth’s Facebook page for details.
