“Collecting my granddaughter from her adored ballet each week, prompted me to approach her school about a collaboration, between their amazing young dancers and our amazing young musicians. Well, here we are, challenged both sides of the footlights: experiencing the variables of live performance, changing tempos, jeopardised grand jetés and phrases bent to fit unseen movement above the pit. What an opportunity for our young artists! What joy!” - Brian Buggy OAM, SYO Philharmonic Conductor

Established over 20 years ago by Tanya Pearson, the Sydney City Youth Ballet provides the essential and valuable experience for emerging dancers to perform full length Ballets alongside professional Guest Artists. Many of the past performers are now Principals in companies around the world and used the Sydney City Youth Ballet as a stepping stone in their career development. The SYO Philharmonic is Sydney Youth Orchestras’ second most senior ensemble, a full symphony orchestra of over 80 young musicians, comprised of 54 strings, plus harp, double woodwind, full brass, horns and percussion led by acclaimed Australian conductor, composer and educator, Brian Buggy OAM. Indeed, Australia’s professional orchestras simply would not exist without this concentrated training, and the Sydney Youth Orchestras is a place to learn the valuable practical skills which transform students into professionals.
