Community Choreographer Required for Wearable Art Mandurah Showcase

Community Choreographer – Freelance Contract Wearable Art Mandurah 2017

The Wearable Art Mandurah Showcase presents the finest wearable art from across Australia and beyond through a highly entertaining stage performance. This show has developed from a small fashion show into an international wearable art competition and performance that offers a new exciting experience for textile practitioners and audiences. This full-length production promises to delight the audience, incorporating a sense of play, musicality and theatricality, while presenting spectacular wearable art. More than 40 finalists showcase their designs over two nights of entertainment and theatre, in a visual spectacular featuring dancers, musicians, singers and models. The Artistic Direction for the 2017 showcase is lead by Choreographer and Movement Director, Helen Duncan.

Position Description - Overview Working closely with the Artistic Director and other Community Choreographer (x2) you will be required to:

  • Set the shows community choreography for models, dancers and other performers.
  • Film sections as they are completed and forward to Artistic Director for approval.
  • Attend all rehearsal and performances as outlined in the schedule.

Applications should include your resume, video sample of previous choreography and names and contact details of two referees and should be submitted by close of business on 28 February 2017.

You will also be attendance at rehearsals & production week as outlined in the schedule attached.

This production works on delivering strong contemporary entertainment within a very limited time frame. While delivery is intense, the environment is highly professional and a whole load of fun. To work successfully in this environment, the applicant will need to have the following skills and qualities:

• An understanding of, and experience in onstage choreography.

  • Experience working with performers of varied ability and promoting strength-based practice.
  • High level of organisational skill.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with non-professional performers to achieve outcomes on time. 
  • Ability to problem solve efficiently in time dependent situations.
